Book of Genesis – September 1

Questions for September 1 st :

  1. Where have you seen God at work this week? How has he been using you?
  2. What questions came up today from the text and or message?
  3. Last week we were caught in the middle of the Joseph story he was just sold as a slave to
    Egypt and now the next chapter follows the life of Judah. Why do you think this chapter was
    important at this time? What did God want us to learn from it?
  4. Reading verse 14 what was going on in Tamar’s mind and motivation?
  5. What did Judah mean in vs. 26 When he said, “She is more righteous than I since I would not
    give her to my son Shelah.”
  6. Twins, where have we heard this story before? Are there any similarities?
  7. How can we be praying for you this week?

Book of Genesis – August 25

Questions for August 25 th :
1. Where have you seen God at work this week? How has he been using you?

  1. What questions came up from the text and or message this week?
  2. Why has God shared with us the story of Esau descendants? Where have you heard part of the
    story before?
  3. In chapter 37 we begin to read the story of Joseph. As you read what stands out to you about
    this young 17-year-old boy.
  4. Joseph Brothers wanted to kill him. Reuben stepped in to stop this. Why do you think he did
    so?
  5. Judah suggested that Joseph be sold. What do you think Joseph was thinking as he left that day
    in a caravan to Egypt?
  6. How can we be praying for you this week?

Book of Genes – August 18

Questions for August 18 – Genesis 35:
1. Where have you seen God working this week? How has he been using you?
2. What questions came up for you from the text and or teaching this week.
3. Jacob asks the people to get rid of the “foreign gods”, does this denote a change in
Jacob’s attitude? What caused the change?
4. What do you see as the importance of God changing Jacob’s name. If the name
means one that struggles or wrestles with God is this a complement or something
else?
5. Think that this chapter ends with the death of Isaac it means that when the blessing
was stolen he was at least 25 plus years younger, but the scripture said he was near
death. What do you think is going on here?
6. What are three take-aways from this chapter for you?
7. How can we be praying for you this week?

Questions for August 11 – Genesis 34:

  1. How has God been working in your life this week?
  2. What questions came up for you this week from the text and or teaching?
  3. When Jacob heard the news of his daughter the scripture said he did nothing cause his
    son’s were in the fields…. why did this matter to Jacob?
  4. Hamor and Shechem suggested that they intermarry with Jacob’s family…. after
    reading the whole chapter what do you think Jacob thought of this idea?
  5. Was the plan of Jacob’s sons a plan God embraced, if not how would have God
    wanted them to handle this situation? Or doesn’t it really matter?
  6. Why does God include this chapter in the scripture? What is he trying to teach us?
  7. How can we be praying for you this week?

3. Do you see any issue with how Jacob arranged his family to meet Esau? 

4. Compare and contrast the actions and emotions of Jacob and Esau when it comes to their meeting?

5. Esau seemed to want to live with his brother. Why do you think Jacob let on like he would be there and then never showed up?

6. Does this chapter shed any light on the present day conflict between Israel and it’senemies?
