Book of Genesis – November 10

Questions for November 10 th :

  1. How did you see God work this week? How has He used you?
  2. What questions are those from the text or the message this morning?
  3. In the NIV verse four weeks, I will make you a community of peoples. What do you think this
    means? Why did God use this terminology instead of what to use with Abraham? “a great
    nation”
  4. We see the names, Jacob and Israel interchange again. Any new insights come from this
    chapter?
  5. Why did Jacob want to make Joseph sons? “his own”
  6. He’s probably discussed by now. The similarity between this story and the Jacob and Esau
    story. Is this just a historical coincidence or is the author trying to tell us something?
  7. How can we be praying for you this week?

Questions for Genesis 47 and Sunday Nov. 3:
1.      What’s God been teaching you this week? What prayer concerns do you have that we can pray for this

3.      Joseph Goes before Pharaoh, then he brings his brothers and finally his dad; what is this progression about?
4.      Why would Pharaoh give the Israelites the best of the land of Egypt?
5.      What do you think it means that Jacob “Blessed Pharaoh”?
6.      Does it seem strange that Joseph charged the Egyptians for grain (taking all that they had) but yet gave
grain to his family? What do you think this was about?
7.      What does Worship mean in vs 31?

Book Genesis – October 27

Questions for October 27 th :
1. What has God been doing in your life and showing you this week?
2. What questions arose for you from the teaching and the scripture today?
3. Jacob/Israel offers a sacrifice at Beersheba, what is important about this.
location?
4. In Jacob’s vision he heard God say, “I will go down to Egypt with you
and I will surely bring you back” What do we learn about God’s
promises from these words to Jacob? How might this affect our lives?
5.  Pharaoh told Joseph to bring his father and family and everything would
be provided for them, but Jacob came with all of his stuff…. what might
we glean from this part of the story?
6.  The Israelites were given the land of Goshen to live one of the most
fertile parts of Egypt…. what might we glean from this part of the story
about God and our relationship with him?

  3. The scripture says that Joseph came to a point of “no control “what do you think brought him
    to this point? Why did he send everyone out of the room?
  4. What emotions most surprised you in this chapter?
  5. Joseph told his brothers that God had brought him to Egypt. Did God also bring Jacob to
    Egypt? To be slaves? Why do we often give God credit for what we sense as good? Yet don’t
    give credit for what we believe to be negative or bad?
  6. Do you have any thoughts about the times that Israel is used in this chapter instead of Jacob?
  7. How can we be praying for you this week?
