Questions for Christmas

  1. What questions came up for you tonight as you listened?
  2. Why does God give such detailed instructions about how to come into his presence in Leviticus 16?
  3. Why do you think God chose ordinary settings (a tent/tabernacle; a manger) to do such important work?
  4. Why does God want people to come in into his presence?
  5. The Day of Atonement happened quietly and seriously, not as a celebration. Jesus was also born quietly and humbly. What might God be teaching us through that?
  6. What do both of these days teach us about God’s desire to restore our relationship with him?
  7. How might we pray for each other tonight?

December 21st

  1. How has God wanted to use you this week?
  2. What questions do you have about the teaching or the text that you’ve read in Leviticus?
  3. In Leviticus 13:45-46, individuals with skin diseases are required to live outside the camp. What might this exclusion from the community signify both spiritually and socially?
  4. Scott shared that the word Tzarat’at it’s very hard to translate into English. What do you learn from the word and what does its use in the scripture signify to you?
  5. The word that is translated molded in English actually means plague. Does that teach us anything? What are your thoughts about these passages on mold?
  6. How does “impurity” or “uncleanness” affect us as individuals and affect the community of God today?

  4. How might Aaron have felt being told not to mourn publicly for his sons? What does this requirement signify
  5. Do you think Nadab and Abihu acted out of ignorance, carelessness, pride, or something else? How does this affect how we read the story
  6. Where is the line between creativity in worship and disobedience? How should modern faith communities think about this tension

  5. We just celebrated Thanksgiving what are the similarities and differences with our celebration and this offering?
  6. What parts of Leviticus do you see intersecting in the Christmas Story?

  5. Hanukkah is birthed out of the story of Re-dedicating the temple. What havened about
    the sacred space in Judaism? How does Christianity’s thoughts about sacred space
    compare?
  6. What do you think about the observance of main holidays of Judaism Passover, Yom
    Kippur, Hanukkah, as opposed to the main holidays of Christianity Easter and Christmas,
    what are the main differences you see?
